Promoting Exercise among Older People

A number of AED projects help the National Institute on Aging achieve one of its primary goals—encouraging older adults to exercise more often to achieve and maintain good health One project conducted formative research with physicians to determine the feasibility and usefulness of physician counseling in influencing older patients to exercise. That project revealed strategies for engaging physicians in this effort. Another project identified leaders in Native American communities and conducted focus groups and in-depth interviews with them. This work lead to communication strategies specifically tailored to older Native American audiences about the importance of exercise in their lives.
