Gender-based violence is a serious, under-addressed, health and human rights problem which is intimately linked with gender inequality. Many of the negative effects of violence against women in Vietnam are preventable with appropriate early screening, intervention and referrals. The goal of this project is to contribute to social justice and women’s health and well-being in Vietnamese communities by engaging health staff and local organizations in developing and testing interventions to raise community awareness and identify and support GBV victims.

AED is working with the Vietnamese Consultation of Investment in Health Promotion and a group of provincial and district-level organizations, including the People’s Committee, the Health Service Department, the Women’s Union, the Youth Union and the Peasant Union.   in the development and testing of a model to discourage gender-based violence and support. The package of interventions includes screening and counseling in health clinics, awareness building, and community-level support networks. AED provides training and technical assistance, and collaborates in research to document and evaluate the project.
