Community YouthMapping (CYM) teaches people to canvass their communities in search of places to go, things to do, and opportunities for young people, children and families. In this process youth and adults document, analyze and disseminate information on community resources, issues, and gaps in available resources. The goal of “Bringing CYM to Scale” is to build on the experiences of CYM nationally, further document CYM impact in communities, and further develop the components that make CYM effective.

CYM is a highly customizable strategy that provides opportunities for meaningful involvement by youth and adults as well as the development of skills like public speaking, conflict resolution, data collection, data entry, data analysis, oral and written communications, and knowledge of community resources. CYM has been a core component in community planning, civic participation, and service learning efforts in many communities nationally and will be implemented internationally in 2004.
