Honduras HIV/AIDs Program (COMCAVI-Comunicando Cambio para la Vida)

Location: HondurasLatin America & the Carribean
Funder: USAID
Duration: 2004-2008

The COMCAVI program provides grants and technical assistance to local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Honduras to implement HIV/AIDS prevention and support programs for the most-at-risk populations, including men who have sex with men (MSM), commercial sex workers (CSWs), Garifunas (Afro-Honduran population), and people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). This program continues the similar and successful work of the predecessor program, Comunicando Vida (August 2002 - October 2004).

The program begins by administering grants to assist NGOs in continuing and expanding delivery of HIV/AIDS prevention and care activities and in replicating effective behavioral interventions to reduce service gaps. In addition to these grants, program activities will include: ongoing capacity-building; support for implementation of VCT using rapid-tests; development and distribution of tools related to information, education, and communications, behavior change communications, and monitoring and evaluation; and the creation of opportunities and mechanisms to share lessons-learned, materials, and best-practices.
