Policy Center Spotlights Role Community Colleges Can Play in Economic Growth
AED, Iowa State University, and the Education Commission of the States recently joined forces to create this resource hub, called The Community College Policy Center. “Until now, policymakers have found it difficult to access the latest research on community colleges,” said AED’s Katherine Boswell, who will lead the Community College Policy Center’s day-to-day activities as its executive director. “This center fills a critical need for those who want to make these institutions even stronger engines of economic development and educational opportunity.” The Community College Policy Center will also provide:
Foundations and the government agencies are pouring millions of dollars into community college initiatives designed to educate at-risk populations and re-train workers who have lost their jobs in the current economic downturn. As a result, new information on effective programs and best practices has emerged.
